Christmas message, ADSO Directors 2020

Well what a year! I know it isn’t over yet, but this is the last ADSO newsletter of 2020. For all of us it has been a difficult year, for many it has been a real challenge both personally and professionally, but as Peter said last week, we are really nearly over the finishing line and I do so very much hope that 2021 is a better year for you all.

There has been some good, some bad and some ugly this year and certainly the bad is not over yet, but I urge you all to take a few moments to think about what you have achieved this year. Most of us, could never have imagined achieving as much as we have, but every one of you has risen to the challenge and showed what the people of Democratic Services are made of.

I was very emotional at my last team meeting, we were talking about what we had achieved this year and I was just overwhelmed with pride for my team and for us as a profession. You really don’t have to look far to see that you are all remarkable and really do deserve a break, so please do take a few minutes to reflect before this year ends on what amazing things you have achieved. Then have a rest as best you can and walk into 2021 ready to take on whatever it throws at you!

Come and join a scrutiny meetup
Scrutiny Meetups are a free and informal way for scrutiny officers to keep in touch. Dave Mckenna holds a themed zoom meeting every month or so and they provide lots of opportunities to share ideas and experiences in small groups. There are typically 30 or so attending each meetup and feedback shows that participants really value the chance to connect with scrutineers in other councils.

The next meetups are on the 19 January (14.00-16.00), 24 February (10..00-12.00) and 25 March (14.00-16.00).

You can find all the details, including how to sign up, on the scrutinymeetup site  here: https://scrutinymeetup.publicgov.co.uk .  I am pleased to say that ADSO is sponsoring these events.

LGA Model Member Code of Conduct

As part of our increasing partnership working, LLG has kindly shared with us a recently drafted explanatory note on the new Member Code of Conduct. This has been uploaded to the ADSO website for you to access.

LGA Model Code of Conduct Explanatory Note

extension: pdf

You may have noticed that the LGA has taken the Code down from its website whilst they address some “editing issues”. We will keep you updated as and when we know more.

All that is left to say is that all of the Directors of ADSO, John, Peter, John, Susan, Priya, Michelle and I, wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
