Latest from the Chair

“Well I’m back from my travels after spending the best part of 4 weeks in 85 degree heat with shorts, t shirts and flip flops the norm, plus the coldest beers you can imagine. So much so that my body has now gone into complete shock mode with the freezing temperatures we are enduring.

On a serious note, I hope everyone is okay out there particularly in those areas that are so badly affected by the weather. I think we’ve got it fairly easy on my part of the North West coast compared to some other parts of the country. Take great care everyone.

A big ‘thank you’ to Dave Burn for covering the bulletin whilst I was away. He did a great job.

Reading Dave’s bulletins reminded me of a discussion we had at the last Board meeting. We talked about the option of different Board members contributing each week  – perhaps bringing you up to date on happenings in their portfolio areas. This would bring more variety (and hopefully interest) plus it would make a refreshing change from my weekly ramblings. So I will raise this again at the next Board meeting and look to introduce it shortly afterwards.

John Lynch and I are representing ADSO at the Lawyers in Local Government Weekend School on 9 & 10 March in Bristol. It promises to be an interesting couple of days. Kate Denham from LLG and I have drafted a discussion paper proposing more joint working between our two organisations. This makes so much sense to me as we work together on a daily basis within local authorities. I will be taking the paper to the Board on 23 March after which I will post it on the members’ forum for your comments.

Have a good week and keep safe and warm.
