Update on conference and West Midlands regional meeting

I’m pleased to say that the arrangements for this year’s annual conference are progressing well. It will be held once again at the Doubletree Hilton in Nottingham on 23 and 24th November, with the dinner on the night of the 23rd.

The theme is ‘Democratic Services – Shaping the Future”. Following on from last year, we want to ensure that ADSO members continue to be as equipped as possible to deal with the political and other challenges, increased workloads and dwindling resources faced by all authorities. Therefore, some of the workshops we will be running include”

  • delving deeper into new ways of working
  • a practical lesson in starting and working within a shared democratic service
  • the Centre for Public Scrutiny bringing you up to date on current thinking, good practice and issues in the scrutiny world

Plus, Philip McCourt, the author of the latest  “Knowles on local authority meetings”, will be running a workshop to discuss and seek new ideas from democratic services practitioners for inclusion the next edition.

Key note speakers are yet to be confirmed and we will update you as things progress.

Early bird bookings will be available from 3 July.

The West Midlands region will be having a meeting on 29 June at 10am in Committee Room 2 of the Birmingham Council House. It looks a really good agenda so please make an effort to get there if you can. Both Modern.Gov and Public i will be present too.
