Weekly message from Joanna Boaler, Director of Communications

We are really flying through November, the Conference and Awards are now so close; I am really looking forward to them both. We have dress rehearsals and practices planned so hopefully those of you who attend will enjoy the event. Please look out for the joining instructions if you are attending the conference and please do read them carefully to make sure you register for the sessions, you will need to do this for each session. The email will be with you later this week.

Annual Conference, AGM and Awards
For those of you who cannot make the conference, you are still very much invited to the AGM and the ADSO Awards 2021. The AGM will start at 17:00 on 25 November and the Awards at 18:00, please do attend both, we need at least 66 members to attend the AGM for it to be quorate, so please do attend and remember that the awards is an opportunity for us to celebrate what has been another challenging year.

To attend you need to register on this link. At the awards last year we know there were virtual team drinks and group chats happening and many of you joined in on social media, this year’s hash tag is #ADSOAwards2021, we very much hope you will join us again. Best of luck to all those shortlisted, and well done to you all!

ADSO-LLG response to Remote Meetings letter
You will have seen the letter we received from the Minister in last week’s newsletter, below is a copy of ADSO and LLG’s response.  We will keep you informed of the progress with this, please do keep reminding members and Senior Officers that they can help with this, especially when they tell you that really don’t want to come into the Town Hall in the coming months…

ADSO Webinars
We have just one more webinar in the programme this year taking place on 8 December called The Essential Requirements for Hybrid Meetings. You can find more information here.

My thanks to Rachel Williamson and Ann Coldicott who have delivered the last two sessions on School Appeals, you can watch all the webinars and find materials from them by visiting our webinar page.  We will be looking through the feedback and suggestions for future webinars for the 2022 programme. If you would be interested in delivering a session, please do get in touch.

Careers
If you are thinking of a new career opportunity for 2022, there are a lot of jobs being advertised at the moment; Officers, Senior Officers and manager positions, do take a look on our website; on the theme of recruitment, you may have heard that Jacqui McKinlay, Chief Executive of the Centre for Governance and Scrutiny (CgGS), is moving back to her home city of Liverpool to lead the City Council, so the CfGS are looking for a new CEO, details of her stepping down can be found here.

Thank you to everyone who has come forward with case studies, videos and other contributions over the last few months, I and the rest of the Board are really grateful, please do keep sending them in, we have had great feedback and will continue to add this type of content in the next few months.

Anyway, that is enough from me this week, I hope you have a good week and I very much look forward to welcoming many of you to the #ADSOConf2021 and #ADSOAwards2021 next week!
