Weekly message from John Lynch, ADSO Finance Director

ADSO Webinar on the LGA Draft Code of Conduct – 7th August 12 noon
You may have seen on social media etc that ADSO is holding it’s very first webinar. The subject is the Draft Code of Conduct and it will take place at 12 noon on Friday 7th August. The event will be chaired by Deborah Evans from LLG and the panelists are Paul Hoey and John Austin. Places on the webinar were all taken within 36 hours of the event being advertised. Thank you to all who have registered and apologies to those who have missed out. This is our first experience of the webinar software and we have noticed that it has accepted a few registrations over the 100 limit. If you registered late on the afternoon of 31 July, you may be one of the unlucky few who will not be able to access the live webinar. Our apologies for this.

The webinar will however be recorded and uploaded onto the website so you will have the opportunity to listen in at your leisure. Other webinars will be arranged covering a variety of topics so keep an eye out for them.

ADSO Awards – extended deadline

We have extended the deadline for receipt of applications for the ADSO Awards to Friday 14th August. Make sure you don’t miss out on this opportunity to recognise the great work your colleagues are doing. https://www.adso.co.uk/adso-awards-2020/

£95k Exit Cap

I see the government are pushing ahead with bringing in the £95k exit cap at some unknown date. This money saving exercise will effect a large number of colleagues. If you haven’t done so already I would suggest you contact your Pensions Manager to see how the proposed change would affect you. Also make use of the free financial advice available to ADSO Members https://www.adso.co.uk/financial-advice-members/

Consultancy Work

We are always being asked by authorities to carry out consultancy work for them. Ideally this would suit someone who had just retired or taken flexible retirement.  Much of the work can be done from home and given the current circumstances any other information would probably be gathered by video meetings with authorities. So if you feel you had the time to do some extra work then send us your CV outlining your skills and experience.

South West Regional Rep

We are sorry to announce that Sarah Selway will be stepping down from her role as regional representative for the South West. We will miss Sarah and I would like to thank her on behalf of ADSO for the many years’ dedication and support in building up a very active south west region. We hope to see her back involved in the not too distant future.

I’m delighted to say however that Libby Johnstone (who has been supporting Sarah so well for the last year or so) has kindly agreed to step up into the role. However we are looking for one or two other members to support Libby. This is a great way to get involved in ADSO both locally and nationally. The workload is not that high, particularly if we can share the role. So to all south west region members out there, please have a think about it and contact Libby if you are interested (libby.johnstone@adso.co.uk).

Forum

Topics I noticed on the forum this week:

– Draft Code of Conduct

– Virtual Meetings Staffing Arrangements

– Voting and Hyperlinks on Modern Gov

– Simultaneous meeting Attendance

I hope you will all be able to enjoy the warm weather which seems to be improving. I’m off to a drive in movie tomorrow to watch Back to the Future. How appropriate!
