Weekly message from John Lynch, ADSO Finance Director

My life is somewhat busier than normal having moved house to East Sussex 2 weeks ago. I’m still unpacking various boxes which seem never ending and trying to get things fixed in the house so you will have to excuse me if I seem to be rambling.

There are still a large amount of membership invoices that are outstanding so if you’re one of those authorities still to pay I would be grateful if you could chase up your accounts teams.

Feedback from last year’s ADSO conference was very positive.  This year’s conference will be held on the 26th and 27th November again at the Holiday Inn, Bristol Filton.  I would be interested to hear your suggestions for speakers for the event or workshops that could be run. I already have a couple of suggestions for the programme but if any authority would like to run a workshop or have suggestions for this year’s programme then please get in touch.

A reminder to make use of the free financial advice service offered to ADSO members offered by Alastair Lycett https://www.adso.co.uk/financial-advice-members/  He will be producing an article on local government pension schemes in the next few weeks which I will include in the appropriate bulletin.

I attended the East of England Regional meeting in Ely, Cambridge on Friday and it was good to catch up with colleagues and listen to some interesting discussions on Officer Delegated Decisions; Member Induction and use of teleconference/webinars for members briefings and boards.

Recent posts of the members forum include land buying items on the forward plan, taxi driver hearings and party group opting out of scrutiny committee places.
