Weekly message from John Lynch, Director of Finance

Hello Everyone

I attended one of the large vaccination centres in Eastbourne this week to receive my first jab. I have to say I was very impressed with how well organised the whole process was from arriving at the venue and getting my details checked to having the vaccination, all staffed largely by volunteers and completed in under 10 minutes. One of things we are good at in this country is organising big events such as the London Olympics, Royal Celebrations or the vaccine rollout and getting people to volunteer to help. Well done to all those people for giving up their time to make things happen.

Along with John Austin I attended the South West and East of England Regional meetings. As usual both were well attended with good discussion and exchange of information between colleagues. Well done to Libby Johnson and Debbie Janes for chairing these.

On Line Training
We have  another virtual training course  called “ Working in a Political Environment” which is in two parts and taking place on 7th and 14th April.  We have three places left so if you want to book a place you need to be quick about it- link to more info and booking here

Legal Challenge
You will have noted that our claim to the High Court has now been lodged and we await further news from the Court. John Austin has posted a thread on the Forum entitled “Plan B post 6th May” asking for information to increase our evidence base for the court hearing and would be interested to know from those authorities who are:

(a) considering reducing the number of members able to attend meetings in your Council’s premises; and
(b) looking for larger premises elsewhere – and at what possible cost.

Please could you reply to John using the post on the forum.

IIMC Regional XI Director voting
In the next couple of days, you will be receiving voting forms for the IIMC Regional XI Director position. You may recall that we had one towards the end of last year but that was a sort of by-election. This is the full term election for one of the positions. Below are statements from the two candidates Eelco Groenenboom and Hans Rijs:

Eelco Groenenboom statement

Hans Rijs statement

My congratulations to both for writing their statements so clearly and coherently in English! Please make sure you use your vote to strengthen the role that Region XI plays in the IIMC overall which can only be of benefit to ADSO members.

Governance arrangements survey
Thank you to all of you who have already completed this survey but we would like more responses.  It takes 1 minute to complete and results will be published in due course.  Click here to complete the survey

Forum
Things that caught my eye on the Forum this week:

  • Standards Hearings During pre-election period
  • Process/communication for receiving a valid call in request
  • Licensing Sub-Ctte Hearings – Selection of Members
  • Councillor in Two adjacent Districts?

You can access these and many other forum threads by clicking on the link in the Members’ Forum section below.

Have a good week everyone.
