Weekly message from Susan Biddle, Director of Training

Hello all and a big welcome to the warm and sunny weather, finally.

As you probably know from my previous newsletter updates, we are working hard this year to move all our usual classroom training courses to virtual delivery.  This seems to be popular as all our courses to date have been oversubscribed.

Thanks…..
I want today to say a big thank you and to celebrate the very hard work and dedication all our trainers have put in to transfer our courses online.  It’s not an easy task and most of the really hard work happens behind the scenes to design and set up courses that will work in the online environment and to pilot them before we ‘go live’.  Our trainer group have all contributed, many whilst continuing to do the busy day job and I for one, and I’m sure our whole membership, appreciate their efforts.

New courses….
Next I want to publicise the courses we are busy developing for the Autumn.  We will be offering three new titles this Autumn, titles and dates below although they are not yet open for bookings.  Each of the workshops will be delivered in two parts, delegates will be required to attend both dates.

Further information is available on the ADSO website here, we would encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment, our virtual courses are proving very popular and often oversubscribed.

  1. Introduction to Electoral Services
  • 24 September (Part 1)
  • 1 October (Part 2)

Both parts of the workshop will be held 9:30 – 12:30

  1. Meetings Procedures
  • 29 September (part 1)
  • 6 October (part 2)

Both parts of the workshop will be held 9:30 – 12:30

  1. Overview and Scrutiny
  • 9 November (Part 1)
  • 16 November (Part 2)

Both parts of the workshop will be held 9:30 – 12:30

Becoming a DSO – an introduction………
We launched our new introduction course for Democratic Service Officers back in May and feedback on the first session was excellent, with delegates saying:

“Excellent, It was well organised and ran smoothly. The pace was perfect. Plenty of opportunity to ask questions”.

“Good, I thought as an introduction it was informative, enough info without being overloaded”.

The course will now be held regularly and we hope that this will become part of your induction programmes for new Democratic Service Officers.  We have set dates for the rest of the year, these are;

  • 16 July, 9:30 – 12:30
  • 8 October, 9:30 – 12:30
  • 1 December, 9:30 – 12:30

The website is open to take bookings, please visit here for more information and to book a place.
