Weekly update from ADSO’s Director of Finance, John Lynch

I am writing this week’s newsletter peering at the screen with one good eye. My other eye is recovering from emergency surgery for a detached retina. Not a pleasant experience but I am grateful to my colleague Pete Sass who has reassured me the things I’m going through after the operation are quite normal, having had the same operation himself a couple of years back.

John Austin has been as busy as ever having attended the 2 day Lawyers in Local Government Conference in Newcastle and the ADSO North West Region meeting in Preston this week. We have also started some Consultancy work with a number of councils covering Peer Review and updating Constitutions.  As you may have seen from the Forum we are hoping to run a Company Secretary training course in 2019 so if you have experience of that work and want to get involved let us know.

Our annual conference is almost here and if you haven’t yet booked please do so quickly as there are only a few places left.  I am grateful for the support of our sponsors Modern Gov, CMIS, Audio Minutes, Public-I and Link Support who will be attending in Nottingham.  We have one space left for a sponsor attendance so if you know of any company that might be interested in attending as a sponsor let me know john.lynch@adso.co.uk

A reminder of the financial advice service that is available for all members to use.  See details on the Members Area section of the websitehttps://www.adso.co.uk/financial-advice-members/

Lastly a big thank you to all those of you who generously donated or followed my blog of my Lands End to John O’Groats Cycle ride in August.  I covered 1,006 miles and raised £2,378 for Prostate Cancer.

Have a great week

John Lynch
