Weekly update from Dave Burn, Vice Chair

Belated New Year wishes to you all from me. This week we stick with a training theme, so here goes:

LLG Webinar –  Committee on Standards in Public Life report on local government ethical standards

As was reported in last week’s bulletin, LLG are running a free webinar next week (Wed, Jan 30, 2019 from 1:00 PM) with Simon Goacher from Weightmans and Paul Hoey from Hoey Ainscough Associates. In the webinar, LLG Chief Executive, Deborah Evans, will explore with Simon and Paul the Committee on Standards in Public Life report on local government ethical standards, which is due to be published the same day.

We have established an excellent collaborative relationship with LLG, demonstrated by LLG opening the webinar to ADSO members. We are very grateful and I would encourage you to participate if you can. If you would like to attend the webinar, the link is here:

Seeking Assessors

I am delighted to say that we have 43 expressions of interest for the Certificate cohort starting in March. We have now closed applications and those that have expressed an interest will receive a registration form shortly to confirm their place. In order to ensure that we can support all potential learners, we still need a few more Assessors. This is a paid role and involves providing advice and guidance to learners as well as the marking of assignments to a prescribed timetable.

It is a great opportunity to get involved in ADSO, learn a new skill and help develop the knowledge of those in the sector. Assessors need to have a good knowledge of the Democratic Services sector and associated legislation and procedures. They will receive a full briefing on the role and all the information and materials need to carry out effective and appropriate assessment. There is further information available on the ADSO website: https://www.adso.co.uk/adso-training/get-involved-in-qualifications/ or you can contact Sue Crosland at SW Councils: sue.crosland@swcouncils.gov.uk
