Weekly update from Susan Biddle, Director of Training

Hi everyone

Delighted to be writing my first weekly update as the new Director of Training. I met some of you at the conference in November and am sure I will meet many more over this next year. My first few weeks have been taken up with getting to grips with the role and agreeing the training programme for 2019 which is now up on the website so do take a look to se what we have planned for the year.

For now we have agreed the courses we will offer and some tentative dates but these are dependent on levels on interest and availability of venues and trainers so do take a regular look as these might change. This year we are trying to avoid the busy election period so courses are not as spread out over the year as they normally would be.

Our first firm date is for a Structures and Functions course on March 29th, which will take place in Nottingham. Please book via Kate Morris in Nottingham, sending all the necessary details as listed on the training courses page.

One of my priorities for my first year will be to update all the training programmes to ensure they are fit for purpose and for your changing roles so if you do atend please make sure you give us feedback at the end, this helps ensure we get the content right for you. I’m also hoping to recruit a few new trainers – some of our happy and skilled band are moving on and I am hoping to find a few new recruits who both know their stuff and have the skills to train others. If you are interested let me know.

LLG are running a free webinar next week (Wed, Jan 30, 2019 1:00 PM) with Simon Goacher from Weightmans and Paul Hoey from Hoey Ainscough Associates. In the webinar, LLG Chief Executive Deborah Evans will explore with Simon and Paul the Committee on Standards in Public Life report on local government ethical standards, which is due to be published the same day.

We thought your members might be interested in attending the webinar, so if you would like to disseminate the link amongst your membership, the link is here:
