Weekly update from Wayne Chandai, Director of Communications

Last week was Municipal’s Clerks Week and after seeing the IIMC proclamation document, Democratic Services colleagues at Birmingham City Council approached the Lord Mayor to ask if she would sign it.  Not only did she sign it, but she invited the Democratic Services team of clerks/meeting managers to her suite for coffee and cakes and presented them with the framed proclamation.  The Leader and Deputy Leader were both present and they joined the Lord Mayor in making very kind speeches to acknowledge the teams work supporting them.

Members may have already seen this but last week MHCLG published their Statutory guidance for Overview and Scrutiny, The statutory guidance is aimed at local and combined authorities. It includes a number of policies and practices authorities should adopt or should consider adopting when deciding how to carry out their overview and scrutiny functions.
