Weekly update, Wayne Chandai, Director of Communications

So another busy week ahead in Westminster and the European Parliament, will we be leaving the EU on Thursday? Seems likely that the there will be some form of extension, let see what this week brings. Our annual conference date has no chance of changing, we still have a few places  so please do check out the program.

This year’s plenary sessions will feature Professor Robin Hambleton, Emeritus Professor of City Leadership at UWE who will be talking about the innovative ‘One City Approach’ to city governance in Bristol providing insights into how to unite public purpose in a locality. We also welcome back Steve Head who will be delivering the plenary on day two, the session will help explain many things about human behaviour, especially when we are under pressure and dealing with change and uncertainty. The first plenary of the conference will be Paul Turrell, Chief Executive, Runnymede Borough Council explaining how you keep the balance between being commercially astute whilst maintaining the public service ethos and the story of Runnymede’s journey.

We are pleased that 11 companies and organisation have sponsored the event and will be in the exhibition hall sharing the work they are doing in the sector. We will also be presenting certificates all of our learners who have completed their qualification. More details can be found here:

ADSO has been asked whether we know how many non-lawyer Monitoring Officers and Deputies there are within local authorities. We don’t have up to date figures so could you please let John Austin know by 5 November (via the post on the members’ forum) if you are in that position john.austin@adso.co.uk
