Salary: £22,183 – £24,982 per annum
Permanent position, 37 hours per week
Are you looking for an opportunity to grow your career by gaining first-hand experience of local democratic processes, and supporting our Councillors to make decisions which shape Cheltenham’s future?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our Democratic Services Team. The successful candidate will work across all aspects of the democratic process, with specific responsibility for the organisation of public meetings, this will include but not be limited to: co-ordinating the production of agendas and reports; attending meetings; taking minutes; and supporting Councillors and senior officers.
About the role
To be successful in this role you will need to be highly organised with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, able to prioritise your own workload and operate with limited supervision to tight deadlines. You will have experience of taking minutes and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be able to develop successful working relationships with people at all levels.
You will have a keen interest in learning more about local government decision-making and the role of elected members whilst also assisting members of the public to get involved in our democratic processes.
• A good standard of education up to an A level standard (including Maths and English at GCSE) with a good level of numeracy and literacy
• Be competent in using Microsoft Office and other software applications and have an aptitude for IT and digital technology
• Experience of working effectively as part of a team
• Practical experience of dealing with people
• A scheme of flexible working operates within the team to accommodate the need to attend evening meetings (typically with a 6.00pm start) on a regular basis.
• This is a politically restricted post at all levels.
