About us
Our Democratic Services team are at the heart of local democracy, managing the democratic processes of Salford City Council and supporting elected representatives to undertake their duties.

The team also has responsibility for ensuring that all elections and referendums in the city are run effectively and efficiently in accordance with legislation and for ensuring that all eligible persons are registered to vote. Both of these key functions are statutory responsibilities.

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team.

About you
To be successful you will need experience of Democratic and Constitutional process management, preferably in a Local Government environment. The ability to work with senior managers and elected representatives in a policy and procedural environment, successful management in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity and a demonstrable track record of managing, leading, motivating and inspiring staff in the delivery of services and/or projects.

About the role
You will take full responsibility for the Democratic and Electoral Services team and will report to a Manager responsible for multiple departments. This is an opportunity to make a mark and put your own stamp on the role. You will lead and be responsible for the day to day management of the team as well as delivery of outcomes.

You will uphold the Council’s governance mechanisms, ensuring appropriate standards of performance, operational effectiveness, probity, safeguarding, risk management, safety, equality and open government are maintained.

You will deliver efficient electoral services which comply with electoral registration and elections legislation and meets the performance standards set by the Electoral Commission.
