We are looking for an enthusiastic person with significant experience in Democratic Services to join our dynamic team as the Deputy Manager. The Democratic Services team are always looking at new ways to improve delivery and you will be expected to help and facilitate this with your innovative and collaborative approach, taking into account the challenges faced by Lambeth and local government. The team have a large portfolio covering the Mayor’s Office, Youth Council, Overview and Scrutiny, Cabinet and the Council’s Committees, Education Appeals and Reviews, borough-wide democratic engagement, and administering the decision-making process.
The successful candidate will need to be innovative, positive and help to drive improvements within the team and across the Council; with management experience, a thorough knowledge of how local government operates and experience working in democratic services or similar governance role. You will also need to be able to plan ahead, have strong all-round communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, an ability to think logically and work with minimal supervision. Reliability and calmness under pressure are prerequisites, given that the role involves working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You will also need to demonstrate political awareness and diplomacy as you will be expected to provide advice to senior politicians and officers.
