Helping local councillors deliver for local people
We are looking for someone, ideally a graduate, who has an interest in local democracy and community leadership, to work as part of a team providing administrative support and advice to Council committees, our elected Councillors and the communities they serve.

The job involves arranging, attending and minuting a range of public meetings; supporting and liaising closely with committee chairs, cabinet members and senior colleagues; and, more broadly, helping ensure open, transparent and robust decision-making and scrutiny challenge. This is a great opportunity at the heart of a busy local authority and, whilst undoubtedly challenging at times, will provide a varied and solid grounding for a career here at the Borough or elsewhere in the wider public sector.

You must be self-assured, able to write clearly and concisely, a proven communicator with good IT skills, an eye for detail and bags of enthusiasm. We’re looking for someone who’s flexible and hardworking, with instinctive political sensitivity and an appreciation of the need for confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Your experience is important but so too is your outlook and attitude and we welcome applications from people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Candidates will be expected to explain clearly and concisely in their application their interest in local democracy and, importantly, in this job. At interview stage we will assess your relevant knowledge and interest and look especially for candidates who are keen, informed, can ‘think on their feet’ and are well-presented.

The job is based at Kensington Town Hall where we work in bright open-plan offices with excellent facilities. Flexible working is encouraged.

For an informal chat about the role, please contact Martyn Carver, Governance Manager, on 020 7361 2477.

The closing date for the receipt of applications is 23 February 2020
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 3 March or Thursday 5 March 2020
