The ADSO Board recommended the merging of the Yorkshire & Humberside Region with the North East region in December 2017. One of the aspirations for the coming year is to hold a Northern Conference which will be open to ADSO Members and Non-Members. We’re currently wanting to hear from you on the topics that you would like to be considered. Some of the ideas that have been suggested to date are:-
- Kirklees Democracy Commission
- Digital Councillors and Implications for Democratic Services
- Accountability Matters – The Rotherham story
- Member Development strategies and programmes
The date and venue of the conference will be confirmed in due course, but it is expected to be held in no later than mid-July. If you want to suggest any topics for the conference or anything that you want to get out of it, please email James.
Developing the ADSO Regional Network
In addition to organising a conference, I am keen to enable ADSO Members to get more involved in the association’s activities at a local and regional level. Given the geographical spread of the region from Sheffield to Northumberland, it won’t always be feasible for Members to make regional meetings regularly, so I would welcome thoughts on developing county networks underneath the regional network. If these arrangements are already established, then it would be really good to hear about these.
ADSO Awards 2018
There is lots of good work going on across the region and it would be great to see this recognised through the ADSO Awards at this year’s conference in Nottingham in November. If any Members or authorities want to discuss the process and requirements for submitting nominations for the awards then please get in touch with James.
