updated conference programme 2018

extension: pdf

This year’s annual conference will take place in Nottingham, It will be held once again at the Doubletree Hilton in Nottingham on 22 and 23 November, with the dinner and awards ceremony on the night of the 22nd.

As usual we are aiming to provide some great networking opportunities for delegates, the opportunity to hear from some interesting speakers on a range of topics and to listen to other Democratic Services Officers about some of the challenges they have faced in their Authorities and how they have dealt with them.

We are delighted that motivational speaker, Steve Head, has agreed to run two plenary sessions on Day 2, focusing on personal and staff motivation under pressure and we have confirmed the following workshops so far:

  • Dealing with bullying and harassment which will be led by Paul Hoey who has just published a report on this topic for the Society of Local Council Clerks
  • Developing personal and team resilience
  • Current case law from Weightman’s Solicitors
  • Good practice in Member Development from Essex County Council
  • Joint working – developing the Dorset partnership

The conference will start with our ever popular facilitated discussions so start thinking about topics which you would like to hear about or lead a discussion on.

We will be recognising all those learners who have completed their certificates and diplomas and awarding the “Learner of the Year” award. Democratic Services Officer/Team of the Year. We also hope you will have fun at our annual dinner with a disco and magician and that you will celebrate with our learners and Award winners.
