Weekly update from Finance Director, John Lynch

Am off to Cornwall tomorrow until Saturday so thought I’d send you my bit for the newsletter now.  Wayne John A will also send you some text to go in below about sponsorship opportunities for the Symposium.

I recently attended the East of England Regional meeting in Welwyn Hatfield last month. It was good to see lots of new faces including those new into Democratic Services who had moved from other departments in their councils and some apprentices and trainees.  With elections in May colleagues wanted their next meeting to look at what they should be doing to prepare for various outcomes including being hung or having no overall control. So if anyone has some good tips or experience of what Democratic Services should be doing to prepare for this, let me know and I will pass it on.

I also attended a meeting of the South East County Councils which was a really useful catch up with colleagues sharing issues and information. Thanks to Surrey County Council for hosting it.

The Notwestminster event is back and ADSO are pleased to be one of the event sponsors. The Notwestminster network brings people together to create and share new ideas for doing local democracy. It’s for everyone who has something positive to say about local democracy and for anyone who is up for a challenge. more details can be found here:

A reminder that as a benefit of your ADSO membership you can access free financial advice from Saint James Place on a range of issues.  Here is the link from our webpage  https://www.adso.co.uk/financial-advice-members/

Lastly if anyone is attending next week’s AEA conference in Brighton, come and say hello as I will be manning the ADSO stand. Sue Keogh is also running one of their workshops
