The 3rd Region XI Symposium is scheduled for 6th and 7th June 2019 and will be held in Stratford-upon-Avon in the United Kingdom. Aptly titled “Broadening Your Horizons – An International Perspective on Citizen and Community Engagement,” the Symposium will be co-sponsored with IIMC Region XI affiliates – SLCC, ADSO and SOLAR — and will feature speakers from the international community.
In the past the Symposium has been held in Brussels but this year comes to the UK. This has also been a great event and ADSO are helping with the preparations.
In a previous newsletter we announced that the ADSO Board had agreed to sponsor up to 20 members to attend the 2019 IIMC Symposium. The brochure giving details of the event is attached.
Sponsorship will be £250 per member. This covers the registration fee. If you book to stay in the conference hotel, that means that the only additional costs you will have is the accommodation (£95 pn single room, £105 pn double) plus your travel. This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in a truly international event at a heavily subsidised rate.
It is also another example of the ADSO Board reinvesting in our members’ development. We are now taking applications for this sponsorship. Please e mail John Austin, in no more than 100 words, why you would like to attend the symposium and how you think you could bring your learning from the event back for the benefit of the wider ADSO membership.
This could include contributions to the weekly newsletter, supporting your regional representative, presentation to your regional meeting or (together with other attendees) running a session at conference. I would like to apply for sponsorship at the symposium event. I am currently undertaking the ADSO Diploma and I feel that it could be a great opportunity to make some great contacts from other countries and compare local government democratic systems in preparation for my dissertation. Once I have finished by Diploma I am hoping to become an assessor for future learners.
